Two Poems
By Haim Vitali Sadacca1

Olvidava mi mundo, i mi ansya desparesiya...
Siempre estuve ambierto a sus sonrizas i kantes,
Iluminates nuestra bivyenta i mos prosperates.

"Las Flores Amariyas"

Te estas yindo...Yo kedo komo ombre ferido
Deshandome medyo bivo i kaje medyo yido,
Kon miradas tristes segiyi tus pasos, tu yida,
Tu kaminada era kansada komo repintida.
Kreyo k'estavas luchando kon toda tu konsensya
Ma no te permetiya tu orgolyo ni tu sensya
Para pueder dizirme "Perdona mi kapricho
Kero retornar a mi kaza, olvida mi dicho."

*****

Kon ti, syempre me sinti el ombre el mas horozo,
Era tu amorozo...Me viya yeno de gozo,
Mis lavyos repetan la poeziya ke diziyas,
Bivo los suvenires sintyendo tus melodiyas.
Kreyiya ke syempre en tu korason me teniyas,
Biviya kon la konviksyon ke me aparteniyas.
Tu yida kavzo trokamyentos kon tu espartisyon,
Para retornar a mi bivyenta i olvidarte....

Notes

1. Haim Vitali Sadacca was born in 1919 in Chanakkale, Turkey, where he had his elementary schooling. As there was no secondary school in this city, in 1933 his parents sent him to Istanbul. There he studied at the Haydarpasha Lycée and two years at the Ecole Saint Benoît for French language classes. Haim Vitali Sadacca wrote poems in Turkish as a student in Istanbul, where his poetry appeared in local publications. An accountant who started his own business in 1947, Sadacca retired in 1990 to be near his children, one of whom lives in New York and the other in Canada. Since then, he and his wife, Janet, reside six months of the year in Montreal, and the remainder in Florida and Istanbul. Now, his passion is to paint, and write poetry, expressing his thoughts and emotions in Ladino, his beloved ancestral language. He is the author of Un Ramo de poemas (New York: FASSAC, 2009), which in a song version was awarded first prize at the 2008 Festiladino festival of Ladino songs in Jerusalem, set to music by Renata Sibel Yolak of Istanbul.
